Botox® is the trade-name for a preparation of botulinum toxin, a chemical synthesized by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It causes paralysis of muscles by blocking the nerve signal that stimulates contraction of the muscle. These injections are most effective in treating dynamic wrinkles caused directly by muscle movement, such as crows-feet when smiling, and forehead furrows when frowning. Static wrinkles from sun damage or age-related skin changes may not completely improve with Botox®.

There are indications & contraindications to this treatment. This will be covered during your consultation with Dr Toth. The effect of Botox® is temporary and the injections can be repeated with good safety margins. The duration of effect is variable, with most patients needing repeat injections between 4 to 6 months.
